LAST WEEK'S RESULTS:
Some lenders offer a 40-year mortgage. How long is a 40-year mortgage a valid lien in Wisconsin?
24.7% - All 40 years.
12.3% - Only 30 years.
28.8% - As long as it remains an open lien at the Courthouse.
34.2% - 30 years, but then another 10 if an extension is recorded.
ANSWER: Mortgages are liens on real estate for 30 years. However, after 10 years and one day, a lender may unilaterally give notice that the mortgage is valid for another 30 years - essentially making a 40 year mortgage legit in Wisconsin.
